    Letter to Dick Gammick

    On February 19, 2010 you announced your candidacy for Washoe County District Attorney. Mr. Gammick you have served as District Attorney for Washoe County for 15 years. A former police officer, you have run unopposed in the last three elections and you now seek a 5th term in office. In your announcement you said that you wanted to continue your fight against lawlessness at the “highest standard the community has come to expect.”

    Perchloroethylene (PCE) in the river and groundwater

    The residents of the Truckee Meadows currently are paying a tax to pay for the clean-up of the PCE contamination in our water supply. PCE is a dry-cleaning chemical that is highly carcinogenic.

Elect Ken Stover for Washoe County District Attorney

Washoe County has problems bigger than Dick Gammick can handle. For the past seven years, Mr. Gammick has waged a war against property taxpayers who have sought reimbursement for unconstitutional assessments. Seven years ago, the cost to the county to settle these matters was roughly $55,000. Today, only the interest on these claims may exceed $12,000 PER DAY! Twice the Nevada Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the taxpayers and against Mr. Gammick and the Washoe County Assessor. Judge Brent Adams has ordered the return of $13 million dollars unconstitutionally collected but Mr. Gammick has refused. As this matter proceeds, Washoe County stands to lose $70 million in property tax revenue unlawfully collected. It is time for this vexatious litigation to stop. The District Attorney has the power to stop it. If elected, I will end this litigation and recognize the orders of the courts.
