The Criminal Division
The Criminal Division of the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office is comprised of many dedicated trial lawyers. Mr. Gammick cannot be criticized for those who have staffed this division. Their responsibilities to the victims, the law, the Constitution, and the citizens of this county has been demonstrated to me over many years of practice. The County can be proud of their work.
Mr. Gammick can also be credited with seeking maximum punishments for the most dangerous criminals. Siaosi Vanisi was a horrible blight on this planet and Mr. Gammick justly sought the death penalty. I too support the death penalty in these type of cases. I would actively promote the idea that Nevada should act like Texas when it comes to working through the appellate process and actually imposing the sentence on those who deserve it swiftly.
However, as a candidate for this office, I cannot simply sing my opponent’s praises. My responsibility also lies in taking my opponent to task where he has failed. Mr. Gammick you failed in the Darren Mack case. The voters should be aware that you still make no apologies for your mistakes in the Darren Mack case. Read more about the Darren Mack relationship.
And if elected District Attorney, changes in the Criminal Division would include an Economics Crime Division which would be responsible for prosecuting the ever-increasing exploitation that is occurring in our community. Exploitation of the elderly has always been a priority, but in this economy, the capacity to exploit others has achieved a frenetic pace. The Economics Crime Division would target those who wish to commit:
- Consumer Fraud
- Identity Theft
- Mortgage Fraud
- Insurance and Annuity Fraud
I would seek to work closely with local law enforcement agencies to develop an investigative unit that targets and roots out those who engage in these criminal enterprises. Financial crimes increase in a bad economy. It is important to work proactively, and not reactively to those who would prey on the finances of the innocent.
